employee contract of employment6/4/2020 ![]() Written contracts of employment Did you know that with effect from 5 April 2020 a new law was introduced which gives your new employees the right to an employment contract with effect from Day 1 of employment ? The document is referred to as a written Statement of Main Terms (SMT) and should be given to your new employee no later than the first day of their employment with you. The document should list all of the employee’s key terms of employment. Up until now organisations have had two months to provide it to a new employee. The two month period has now been removed, meaning the Statement of Main Terms (SMT) should be issued to your new employee no later than the first day of their employment. Significantly, employers now have to provide an SMT to all employees including those on short term temporary contracts, zero hour and casual workers contracts. As an employer you should be thinking about how this affects your business. Are you prepared for this and other recent changes to employment law? Call Us: on 07950 572702.
